I would appreciate Foster’s thoughts on something I’ve been wrestling with.
I experience this kind of conflict in many different areas of life, but I’ll use the Vatican as an example.
The Vatican is undeniably magnificent. The architecture, the grandeur, the history, and the artwork are truly breathtaking. I’ve visited it myself, and yet whenever I hear or read about the Vatican, I experience a very different feeling. Despite all of its beauty, the energy I perceive around it feels dark or unsettling to me.
This leaves me wondering how to reconcile these seemingly opposing realities. How can I appreciate the beauty, artistry, and achievements that are there without allowing my concerns about what I perceive as the darker aspects to overshadow everything else? Is it possible to hold both perspectives at the same time?
More broadly, how do we navigate situations where something contains both qualities we admire and qualities that deeply concern us? How do we acknowledge both without becoming blinded by either?
Thank you so much!
